About Us

I.About Us Indus promoters believe that the most sustainable way to pay back to society is through quality education. They envision a school in which students will take the lead in changing Indian society for the better; acting locally, but thinking globally. They firmly believe that until students have given back locally to their society, they will not be able to contribute effectively to wider global issues, or become global citizens. After examining various curricula, the promoters selected the International Baccalaureate (IB), the only international curriculum that effectively meets the challenges of globalization. The curriculum facilitates critical thinking, lifelong learning, whole-education, and the ability to live with diversity. Above all, IB encourages students to take on the responsibility for their learning. The name Indus was selected by the CEO, Lieutenant General Arjun Ray, PVSM, VSM (Retired), while reflecting on the banks of the Indus River that flowed past his house in Leh. The name was most apt, as India’s great civilization and culture are derived from this River. Lieutenant General Arjun Ray was a Corps Commander with his Headquarters at Leh in the year 2000. He had launched a massive socio-political campaign – Operation Sadbhavana – to win over alienated sections of society and integrate them into the mainstream. Most of the volunteers who were working to support this campaign were from Bangalore. That is how he came to the notice of the promoters of Indus. They invited him to leave the Army before he was due to retire and lead the initiative. The project was conceived in 2001; and on 14 July 2003, Indus International School, Bangalore, started its first academic session. The overall vision for Indus International Schools has been specially crafted‚ keeping in mind the significance of leadership in a globalized world, the strength of traditional values of love, empathy and discipline (respect was added in 2007), and the need for children to be rooted in their native culture. In a short span of seven years, the Indus family of international schools has grown – Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, and the world’s first international school for children below the poverty line at Bangalore. These schools, as well as those that will come up later, are supported by the Indus School of Leadership and the Indus Training And Research Institute. II.Our CEO Lieutenant General Arjun Ray, PVSM, VSM (Retired), was honored by the highest award for distinguished services in the Armed Forces, the Param Vishist Seva Medal. At Indus, he is responsible for strategizing, implementation of vision 2020, governance of all institutions, and human resource and leadership development. He strongly believes that man is born potential, and that leadership development must start as early as possible. III.Core Values Love, empathy, discipline, and respect are the core values of Indus. These are imparted mainly though experiential learning program, outdoor education, and community service. IV.Mission 2020 Establish a mix of thirty new International Baccalaureate and national curriculum schools. And Diversify into the education space in domains of early years’ schools, teacher training, foreign languages, career counseling, and leadership training. V.Vision 2020 To be global leaders in international education by 2020, through application of advanced learning concepts, and support structures like the Training and Research Institute and Leadership School.
