Introduction
Director's Desk
I.As a frontline Research and Development Centre
NCCS focuses on Human Resource Development, and Research and Development in the areas of cell biology, signal transduction, cancer biology, diabetes, biodiversity, infection & immunity and chromatin architecture and gene regulation, stem cells and regenerative biology.
In the past year, NCCS has provided more than 1700 cell lines to various research institutions and universities in India. There is a requirement of large number of skilled scientific personnel, to utilize the vast information available in the frontier areas of biology for the benefit of the society. Towards this human resource development, under our teaching and training programme, we have trained over 30 student fellows from all over the country in different aspects of conducting research in modern biology.
As a premier research institution, NCCS focuses on current and emerging public health needs and promising areas of science.
About Us
Our centre considers many different perspectives in establishing research priorities.
We thrive to excel in our research activities. Our efforts are reflected in the number of publications in several prestigious international journals. In the past year we have published over 50 scientific papers. Our research is supported by funding from various national and international grant agencies. Furthermore, NCCS has established Indo-French, Indo-German, Indo-Finland, Indo-US collaborative projects to enhance our scientific activities.
NCCS will continue to focus on important questions relevant to human health, specifically in the area of regenerative medicine, infectious diseases and lifestyle induced health adversities.

II.Mission
As a frontline Research and Development Centre
The centre focuses on basic research in the areas of Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Infectious diseases, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Proteomics, Genomics, Diabetes and Tissue Engineering that leads to enhancement in understanding the events at molecular level.
As a National Repository
To receive, identify, maintain, store, grow and supply:
Animal and human cells/cell cultures, cell lines of both existing (typed) and newly developed hybrid cells including hybridomas.
Tissues, organs, eggs(including fertilized) and embryos.
Unicellular obligate pathogens, parasites and vectors, plasmids, genes and genomic libraries.
To develop, prepare, quality control and supply culture media, other reagents and materials and cell products independently and in collaboration with industry and other organizations.
To serve as National Reference Centre for tissue culture, tissue banking, cell products, data bank etc. Further to provide consultancy services to medical, veterinary, pharmaceutical institutions, public health services and industries etc. in the country.
As a focal point of Human Resources Development
To establish and conduct post graduate courses, workshops, seminars, symposia and training programmes in the area of mammalian tissue culture and transgenic animals etc.
As a bridge between Science and Industry
To provide and promote effective linkages on a continuous basis between various scientific and research agencies/laboratories and other organizations including industries working in the country.
As a player in inter institutional collaboration
To participate in goal oriented research programmes as required in the country for the betterment of society and advancement of scien ce and technology.
